Change VAT ID
Option A - Country remains the same
First check option C. If option C is not suitable for you, please look at option B next.
Option B - Country changes
If you have moved and your country and VAT number have changed, the following steps are required:
- Cancel your license: First you have to cancel your current license.
- Reactivate license: Then reactivate your license by going through the purchase process again.
- Enter new information: As part of this process, you can enter the new country and VAT ID. See "Enter VAT ID - During Purchase".
Option C - Email to Paddle
If the country remains the same and you just want to change your VAT ID, you can do this by sending your change request by email to help@paddle.com. Please don't forget to include your order number or subscription ID and your new VAT ID in the email.
Enter VAT ID
During the purchase
After you have entered your email address and zip code during the purchasing process, you will have the option to add your VAT ID. This is done on the payment methods page. Click on "Add VAT number" and enter your VAT number without the country code, e.g. without DE.
After the purchase
Log in to the Customer Portal at https://service.borlabs.io/ and select the "Invoices" option on the left hand side.
In the list of invoices, click on the icon shown in the screenshot.
Click on "Add address" in the invoice.
Check the "This is a business purchase" box, as shown in the screenshot. The field for entering the VAT ID will appear.
Invalid VAT ID
If you receive the error message "You must enter a valid VAT number", first check that you have entered your VAT ID without the country code. For example, if your VAT ID is DE 123456789, just enter 123456789 for Germany.
If the number is correct, the EU VAT Information Exchange System (VIES) servers may not be available.
Another possibility is that your VAT ID is not activated for cross-border transactions. Since the sale is made through Paddle, which is based in the UK, your VAT ID must be activated for this.
You can check your VAT ID here: https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/vatRequest.html
