WHAT IS WORDPRESS COOKIE FROM BORLABS & WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE TO OTHER WP GDPR PLUGINS?
Borlabs Cookie is not just another cookie plugin for WordPress!
The WordPress Cookie Plugin from Borlabs lets visitors choose which cookies they want to accept (opt-in) by using a checkbox or switch button for each cookie and cookie group. Many other cookie plugins only inform about the use of cookies and sometimes only offer an opt-out, which is not DSGVO compliant.
With the introduction of the GDPR (DSGVO) or at the latest with the ePrivacy Regulation, cookies may no longer be set without the consent of the visitor (opt-in obligation). When visiting your website, they will receive a notice and the possibility to save their preference (cookie settings) by a simple selection. You can easily adapt the selection options and texts to your needs. No personal data is collected by Borlabs Cookie. The IP address is also not used for this purpose, which since the GDPR falls under personal data.
The WordPress cookie solution contains the necessary code for Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Google Tag Manager and Facebook Pixel Tracking. You only have to enter your tracking ID and the Cookie Consent Plugin does the rest. Fully GDPR-compliant, your visitors IP addresses are only transmitted to the services if they give their consent. To opt-in, the website does not need to be reloaded - tracking codes are reloaded according to the user's selection. For your cookies, there is also an integrated opt-out solution for your visitors, as required by the GDPR. The cookie settings of your visitors are also stored in a log (without using personal data) and you and your visitors can see when they gave their consent to which cookies.
Iframe content can be blocked automatically without sending the IP address to the external service. Your visitor can then choose which content to download and when. WordPress Cookie Plugin also provides you with a short code that allows you to block almost any content and make it available only with a click. This way you can easily prevent your visitors' IP addresses from being sent to YouTube, for example, without their consent.
WP Google Fonts or Google Fonts cannot and should not be blocked by our plugin. Technically it would be possible, but we advise against it. The font is necessary for the display of the website and must be loaded early. A later loading would have undesirable optical effects. Google Fonts should therefore either be integrated locally or at least be mentioned in the privacy policy. According to Google, as little data as possible is collected for the fonts, see here: https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq.
The Cookie Plugin is also compatible with all WordPress Caching plugins, offers WPML, Polylang and Weglot support, statistics and much more. Soon there will be support for WooCommerce to store e-commerce sales in Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel and Matomo.
WHAT IS THE GDPR (DSGVO)?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance was implemented jointly by the European countries and came into force on 25.05.2018. The cookie directive states that the user must be informed about every action that leads to the personal data storage.
Thus, the cookie guideline does not only apply to tracking cookies, but also to server logs, contact forms and much more. The user must therefore also agree or consent to this type of storage of his data.
The Borlabs cookie plugin lets your visitors choose which cookies they want to accept and is so fully compliant with the GDPR regulation.
If the storage of personal data is questioned, most website operators argue within their privacy policy with the "legitimate interest". In this case, consent would not be necessary and the storage of data would be permitted. However, courts have yet to decide how effective this argumentation is.
With the coming ePrivacy Regulation, the setting of cookies will only be possible with the consent of the user.
The ePrivacy Regulation also serves to establish precise laws for the operation of websites that comply with data protection regulations but it is yet not clear when the regulation will come into force.
